Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and Minister of Works David Umahi praised the South East region for its decision to refrain from participating in the recent nationwide protests during their inspection of Federal and State road projects on Sunday.

In their statements to journalists, Mbah and Umahi highlighted that the region’s choice to abstain from the protests helped prevent potential losses and reflected goodwill towards the Federal Government. They commended the region’s restraint, which they believe averted unnecessary risks to life, property, and business.

Mbah remarked, “I want to express my deep appreciation to our people for heeding our call to avoid the protests and continue with their daily activities. Their understanding of the value of hard work deserves high praise.”

He continued, “Although the effects of government policies may not always be immediately apparent, it is important to recognize that many of these policies are intended to bring positive changes. With a bit more patience, we will start to see the benefits of these reforms.”

Umahi added, “By choosing not to protest, the people of the South East and the Igbo community have made a significant statement. We seek proper integration into the governance of this country. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made strides in this direction by appointing an Igbo man as Minister of Works and another as a service chief, among other roles.”

He noted the region’s historical exclusion from governance and development, contrasting it with the current infrastructural advancements in the South East. “Why should we protest against a leader who has given us what we were previously denied?” Umahi said.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to Governor Mbah for his leadership and to other governors and states that also chose not to protest.
