PDP Mourns with Families of Sokoto Boat Mishap Victims; 25 Still Missing
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Sokoto State chapter has expressed deep condolences to the families of those who perished in the recent boat accident on Kojiyo River, Goronyo Local Government Area.
In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, urged authorities to intensify rescue efforts to locate the 25 passengers still missing and to provide urgent support to affected families.
Sanyinnawal reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to working with relevant agencies to ensure victims’ families receive necessary assistance. He also called on the government to prioritize improved safety protocols on waterways to prevent similar tragedies.
“To the bereaved families, may the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace, and may their loved ones find solace in the support of well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult time,” the statement read.
The PDP assured the people of Sokoto of its solidarity and prayers for the safe recovery of those unaccounted for.
The tragedy occurred on Sunday when a boat carrying 51 passengers, goods, and motorcycles capsized. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed on Monday that 26 people had been rescued, with search operations ongoing for the remaining missing passengers.
