2027: Shehu Sani Explains Why Jonathan Should Not Contest
Former Kaduna Central Senatorial District lawmaker, Shehu Sani has advised former President Goodluck Jonathan not to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program, Sani explained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under whose platform Jonathan won the presidency in 2011, is no longer united.
He urged Jonathan to abandon any plans to run for the presidency, noting that the PDP he once knew has changed significantly.
“Jonathan’s name often surfaces during election periods, and it is his personal choice to run. But I advise him not to do that,” Sani said.
“The PDP he once knew is not the PDP now. In the South-West, the party is endorsing the current president, and some members are part of the coalition. So, the party has changed, and he shouldn’t waste his time,” he added.
Jonathan served as Vice President to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua before ascending to the presidency in May 2010. He was elected on the PDP platform and served until May 2015. He also contested the 2015 election but lost to the late Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
