Former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is actively spearheading efforts to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. Tambuwal is leading moves to merge the Sokoto PDP with the newly formed All Democratic Alliance (ADA), part of over 100 political groups seeking INEC registration.

This initiative follows a closed-door meeting at Tambuwal’s residence, attended by key PDP stakeholders, including National Organising Secretary Umar Bature and Sokoto PDP Chairman Aliyu Goronyo. Although the PDP spokesperson confirmed the meeting, coalition discussions were described as routine.

In Kebbi State, PDP leaders held talks signaling readiness to support any credible coalition aimed at defeating the APC. Kebbi PDP Chairman Dr. Ibrahim Mera emphasized the need for unity to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges. Retired General Aminu Bande criticized the APC government for political witch-hunting and increasing hardship.

Both states’ PDP chapters have intensified coalition negotiations as part of a strategic plan to challenge APC’s dominance in 2027.
