Philip Aivoji, the Lagos State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed optimism that the impeached former deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, still has a chance to become governor. Despite Shaibu’s impeachment, Aivoji urged him to remain patient and committed to the PDP.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday, Aivoji addressed Shaibu’s impeachment by the Edo House of Assembly following recommendations from a judicial panel.

The rift between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki emerged when Shaibu expressed interest in succeeding him as governor, leading to a parallel party primary in February.

Following Shaibu’s removal, Governor Obaseki swiftly appointed Omobayo Godwin as his new deputy. However, Aivoji emphasized that Shaibu should stay loyal to the PDP and not consider leaving the party.

He encouraged Shaibu to remain patient and entrust his future to divine providence, stating, “No one can predict the future, and Shaibu still holds the potential to become governor someday. He should continue working within the party’s framework, mend fences, and pursue his aspirations.”

Aivoji concluded by reaffirming his belief that Shaibu’s loyalty to the PDP could pave the way for him to realize his dream of becoming governor in the future.
