PDP Crisis: Suswam Calls for Damagun’s Removal Due to Poor Performance
Former Benue State Governor Senator Gabriel Suswam has called for the removal of the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, citing poor performance as the reason. His remarks came during an expanded caucus meeting of the PDP in Makurdi.
Suswam criticized Damagum for allegedly turning the party into a business venture, asserting that he is unfit to lead. “Damagum must go, whether they like it or not,” he declared. He expressed concern that the current national leadership is intent on undermining the party, vowing to resist such efforts.
The former governor accused the party’s national leadership of colluding with negative elements to weaken the PDP, specifically highlighting a conspiracy among some party leaders to conduct flawed local government and state congresses in Benue State. He questioned how delegates could be selected for the state congress without preceding ward and local government congresses, labeling the process a sham that would not hold up.
Senator Suswam assured attendees that the party is not lacking in ideas, stating that if their current strategies fail, they would pursue stronger alternatives.
The Benue State PDP Chairman, Mr. Christian Adaba Abah, commended party members for their steadfast support and encouraged them to remain loyal to the party, assuring them that their faith would be rewarded.
Other speakers, including Udu Nyitse for Benue North East, Cletus Upaa for Benue North West, John Ngbede for Benue South, and Hyacinth Inyakuma for former House of Assembly members, pledged their loyalty to the PDP and expressed confidence in the party’s ability to strengthen its position and reclaim its mandate by 2027.
