William Gallas Compares Chelsea’s Cole Palmer to Zinedine Zidane

Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has likened England midfielder Cole Palmer to Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane in terms of importance and influence on the team.

Speaking to Prime Casino and reported by Tribal Football, Gallas emphasized Palmer’s key role at Chelsea, stating,

“Cole Palmer at Chelsea reminds me of Zinedine Zidane with France, when you look at his importance within the team. Everybody knew Zidane was the star and that’s the same as Palmer in the current side. It comes naturally to him and that’s why he needs to be protected.”

Palmer, who left Manchester City for Chelsea in the summer of 2023 due to limited playing opportunities, quickly became a crucial figure at Stamford Bridge.

Despite a modest 2025 season with just three goals, Palmer made a significant impact by providing two assists in the UEFA Conference League final, helping Chelsea secure a 4-1 victory over Real Betis.
