Jigawa State Govt Approves Over N1.5 Billion for 22,388 students’ Bursary Allowances
The Jigawa State Government has approved the release of N1,547,614,974.00 to pay bursary allowances for 22,388 students attending various tertiary institutions nationwide.
This was announced by the State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa Ahmad, during a briefing following the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday.
The bursary program forms part of Governor Umar A. Namadi’s strategic agenda to enhance access to quality education, alleviate financial pressures on parents, and empower the youth of Jigawa to achieve academic and professional success.
Hon. Sagir explained that the approved funds will cover registration fees for students enrolled in 83 tertiary institutions across the country.
He stated, “In line with Governor Namadi’s unwavering commitment to educational advancement and human capital development, the Council has approved the disbursement of bursary allowances totaling One Billion, Five Hundred and Forty-Seven Million, Six Hundred and Fourteen Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy-Four Naira (N1,547,614,974.00) to eligible Jigawa indigenes pursuing tertiary education.”
The bursary will benefit 13,622 male and 8,766 female students, reflecting the government’s inclusive approach to supporting educational goals across gender lines for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Introduced by Governor Namadi, the bursary scheme aims to ease the financial burden on parents amid rising registration fees in higher education institutions—a factor that had raised concerns about students potentially dropping out due to unaffordable costs.
