A team from the Department of Reform Coordination and Service Improvement, led by Abdul Ali El-Zaki and represented by Chioma Agboola, recently concluded a visit to the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital to assess its service delivery.
According to report from the IPR Department of the hospital, Mrs. Agboola commended DUFUTH’s management and staff for their exceptional hospitality and commitment to patient support.
She said the hospital’s facilities and operational systems, which conform to international benchmarks, left a positive impression on the team.
The team, according to her, evaluated DUFUTH using a five-pronged approach, examining service delivery, timeliness, staff professionalism, information dissemination, and staff attitudes and scored high in these areas, with commendations for the Chief Medical Director to sustain excellence.
The team highlighted several areas for improvement, including the installation of structural directional signs, compulsory staff name tags, paediatric ward wall graphics to aid recovery, SERVICOM budget allocation, dedicated phone line and data for the SERVICOM desk officer, reflective jackets, additional manpower, and publishing the SERVICOM charter on social media.
Chief Medical Director Prof. Uzoma Agwu, who joined the programme via telephone, expressed gratitude and pledged continued commitment to sustaining the institution’s excellence and reversing medical tourism.
She emphasized the hospital’s difficulties, specifically the inability to access the 2024 capital budget, and committed to fulfilling the team’s obligations.
Dr. Ugoji Darlington-Peter, Ag. Chairman Medical Advisory Committee pledged a follow-up evaluation to identify and rectify any shortcomings in hospital standards.
The Acting Director of Administration, Sir Pius Ewa thanked the team for their cooperation and assured effective and efficient administration in service delivery.
