Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has asserted that Nigeria’s middle class has effectively vanished under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, citing the adverse effects of the government’s economic reforms.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Monday, Falana criticised what he described as “harsh neoliberal policies” that have deepened poverty and widened the wealth gap across the country.

“The middle class has been wiped out by the neoliberal policies of the government,” Falana said, warning that the administration’s approach to privatisation is worsening income inequality.

“You cannot be addressing income inequality in a country while handing over the nation’s resources to a few people in the name of privatisation,” he stated.

Falana also highlighted the growing hardship among Nigerians, saying, “Most Nigerians cannot afford three square meals a day.”

He urged the federal government to urgently reconsider its economic direction. “It is in the interest of the government to review its policies as soon as possible,” he concluded.
