The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the “embarrassing practice” of officers lobbying politicians and external actors to influence internal postings, describing it as a serious act of indiscipline under a new policy.

In an internal wireless message obtained by NIGERIA NEWS 247, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun warned all senior police commands nationwide that lobbying for postings disrupts police administration and will no longer be tolerated. Officers were advised to strictly comply with the new directive that labels any lobbying as indiscipline, punishable without reward, especially if the position is under query or not vacant.

The IGP stressed that officers seeking postings on medical or compassionate grounds must apply through official channels by writing to the Inspector General via the Force Secretary.

Commanders have been instructed to lecture officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) upwards about the policy and acknowledge receipt of the directive.

This crackdown comes amid rising reports of sabotage, intense lobbying, and political interference in police postings.

Adding to the tensions, a retired Superintendent of Police recently sparked controversy by rejecting a ₦2 million retirement payout as “an insult” after 35 years of service, vowing to fight for fair treatment.
