The young Polish students and their teacher detained in Kano during the EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest have been released.

Poland’s Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, announced their release on X on Wednesday.

The Nigerian authorities had detained the seven Polish citizens, including University of Warsaw students and their teacher, over suspicions related to Russian flags displayed during the protest.

Polish officials criticized their detention, stating that the group was simply “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Sikorski confirmed that the group is now free and will soon return to Poland, noting, “I would like to confirm that the young people are already free, back in Kano, on campus, with passports. I believe they’ve had a unique lesson in African studies and should be back in Poland shortly.”
