NNPP Explains Decision for New Logo Due to Voter Confusion in 2023
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has provided insight into the need for changes to its logo. On Friday, the party, which saw the Governor of Kano State elected on its platform in 2023, announced changes to its constitution, slogan, logo, and flag.
During the official presentation of the new logo, flag, and slogan in Abuja, NNPP National Chairman Dr. Ajuji Ahmed explained the changes. The new logo, approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will appear on ballot papers starting in November 2024.
The party clarified that the old logo would still be used for the off-season September 21, 2024, Edo State governorship election and the upcoming re-run election in Kano State due to logistical reasons. However, the new logo will be used starting with the November 16, 2024, Ondo State governorship election.
Dr. Ahmed cited the party’s experience in the last general elections, where the old logo’s many colors caused challenges in ballot paper production and voter confusion. He noted that the party chose to address the issue through dialogue and consultations rather than blame or legal challenges.
He also called on all State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs) to adopt the new logo for local government elections across the country.
