Chelsea confirmed Xabi Alonso as their new head coach after reaching a decision toward the end of last season, with the Spaniard now officially beginning a new chapter at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking for the first time since his appointment, Alonso expressed his excitement about leading the club and said he is eager to begin working with his new squad.
The former Spanish international explained that the timing of the move felt perfect and described Chelsea as the right club for the next stage of his coaching career.
“Timing is crucial when making decisions like this. Everything came together at exactly the right moment and fell perfectly into place. I believed that the opportunity to manage a club like this was the right choice.
Tomorrow (10 July), I’ll be working with the players. From day one, we need to build that connection because football is built above all on relationships and human bonds. When you feel comfortable, you usually perform at your highest level.”
Alonso is expected to meet the Chelsea squad on Thursday, July 10, as preparations for the new season get underway. The new manager will be focused on building strong relationships within the squad as he looks to implement his ideas ahead of the upcoming campaign.
