England have been dealt a major setback ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final after defender Jarell Quansah received a two-match suspension following his red card in the Round of 16.

Quansah was originally expected to serve a standard one-match ban, which would have ruled him out of the quarter-final clash against Norway. However, England’s appeal to FIFA had the opposite effect, with the governing body deciding to increase the punishment instead of reducing or overturning it.

As a result, the defender will now miss two matches, dealing a significant blow to England’s hopes as they continue their World Cup campaign.

In a separate announcement, FIFA confirmed the officiating team for England’s quarter-final against Norway. The entire referee crew will be from Argentina, making it the first time in FIFA World Cup history that every official assigned to a World Cup match comes from the same country.
