Breaking News: Borno Imposes 24-Hour Curfew Following Market Bomb Attack
The Borno State Government has imposed an immediate 24-hour curfew following a tragic incident in the Kawori Market, Konduga area. On Wednesday night, an improvised explosive device, suspected to have been planted by a Boko Haram suicide bomber, detonated, resulting in the deaths of 16 people and leaving several others critically injured.
In a statement released on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the government emphasized that this curfew is necessary to restore law and order and ensure public safety. Governor Babagana Zulum consulted with top security officials before making this decision.
The statement read, “In light of the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security and law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order, the detonation of an improvised explosive device in Kawori led to the tragic loss of 16 lives, with several others critically injured and hospitalized.”
The curfew, implemented immediately, aims to manage the situation and prevent further incidents. Residents are urged to remain calm, adhere to the curfew, and await further updates. The PPRO concluded, “I call upon the good people of Borno State to remain calm and law-abiding. Further developments will be communicated as the situation evolves.”
