Dublin Airport Authorities Report 12 Injuries in Qatar Airways Turbulence Incident

Dublin airport authorities confirmed that no fewer than 12 individuals sustained injuries during turbulence on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Ireland, which safely landed on Sunday. This occurrence follows a similar incident last week involving a Singapore Airlines flight diverted to Bangkok due to severe turbulence, resulting in one fatality and numerous injuries.

According to Dublin airport’s statement, six passengers and six crew members were injured when Qatar Airways flight QR017 encountered turbulence over Turkey. Despite the turbulence, the flight landed as scheduled shortly before 1 p.m. (1200 GMT) on Sunday.

Emergency services, including airport police and fire and rescue personnel, were on standby upon the aircraft’s arrival to assist the injured passengers and crew. The Dublin Airport team continues to provide support to those affected.

In a separate incident, a British man died and over 100 individuals were injured when Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 experienced extreme turbulence, prompting an emergency landing in Bangkok. Some passengers and crew sustained severe injuries to their skulls, brains, and spines during the ordeal.

In response to the incidents, Singapore Airlines has reinforced its seatbelt regulations. Air safety experts emphasize the importance of passengers adhering to seatbelt rules, as unexpected turbulence poses risks. Additionally, scientists warn that climate change is exacerbating clear air turbulence, making it more unpredictable and potentially hazardous.
