Former Italy defender Marco Materazzi has shared his thoughts on the title race, insisting that Pep Guardiola has a clear edge over Mikel Arteta due to their close working relationship.
Speaking in an interview with Hajper, Materazzi explained that Guardiola’s deep understanding of Arteta’s methods could prove decisive, as the Manchester City boss knows exactly how to counter Arsenal’s approach.
Despite this, he praised Arsenal as a strong and exciting team, though he pointed out their lack of experience compared to more seasoned sides.
Arsenal already missed out on one trophy after a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final last Sunday. However, they are still competing for the FA Cup, Premier League, and Champions League.
Materazzi believes the Gunners have what it takes to win all three, but stressed that luck will play a crucial role.
“I think Arsenal are a very good team and they play well,” Materazzi said. “But Arteta worked closely with Guardiola, so Pep knows him very well and understands how to stop them.
“They are in the title race and I watched them against Inter—they were impressive. They are a bit young and lack experience, but they have a chance to win.
“To win the treble, they need luck, focus, and fitness. From now until the end of the season, every match is like a final—you have to be perfect.”
